New medications not on the repeat list?
If the GP has recently been prescribed a new medication and this is not shown on your repeat list, you will need to have a review. Once the clinician has completed the review and is happy for you to remain on the medication, they can then add the item to your repeat medication list.
What is a Structured Medication Review?
A Structured Medication Review is a confidential meeting between you and a clinical Pharmacist or another clinician to discuss your medicines and your general health. Clinical Pharmacists are experts in medicines and work alongside your GPs to make sure your medicines are right for you and are used safely. For further information click here.
Electronic prescribing
Your GP or a member of the Nursing Team can now send your medication online directly to your chosen pharmacy.
You can choose your pharmacy by:
- Nominating a pharmacy yourself on the NHS App
- Visiting your regular pharmacy and signing up for electronic prescribing
- Asking the Receptionist at the practice to register your chosen pharmacy
Prescriptions for foreign travel
The NHS does not maintain responsibility for people when they leave the United Kingdom. People travelling to Europe are advised to apply for a Global Health Insurance Card
For long stays abroad, you need to register with a GP in that country for medication. (You may need to pay for this).
If you need medication for travel, such as travel sickness or diarrhoea relief, this cannot normally be given by your GP. Patients are advised to buy these items from community pharmacies before travel.
